In this post I show pictures of my hometown Graz. With my Graz photo project "Graz, is it? It is!", my aim is not just to take pictures of the classic sights or just take street photos, but to develop a personal view of this city. This idea came about during the pandemic, when travelling was very limited or not possible at all. I'm always travelling around parts of the city, wandering through individual streets or squares and looking for interesting motifs. I try to find subjective details worth seeing, interesting lighting situations or new perspectives on well-known points of interest, which at best reflect the character of the city or show the many facets of my great hometown.
The historic centre of Graz belongs to the elite circle of around 900 World Heritage Sites. Graz was European Capital of Culture in 2003, is a UNESCO City of Design and is a very lively city thanks to its many students’.
"Bildausschnitte" = Bernd Grosseck, a photographer, who lives near Graz in Austria.
My photographic focus:
1) Portraits of regions, towns and villages
As a photographer with a passion for landscape and travel photography, I have been accompanying people on their visual journeys for many years. I capture the typical characteristics of each region and present them through my individual view of the world.
2) Photographing projects
Every good story has a theme. With my pictures I want to tell the specific theme and experience in visual stories. It is my passion to accompany people in their work and to create 'behind the scenes' insights in various fields.
3) Storytelling with my people photography
I specialise in portraying people in their private or professional environment, especially in my work for print magazines or in business or family portraits. At events I unobtrusively create valuable memories with my camera in a reportage style.
Here I show pictures from my series 'minimal scenery'. Some of the images from the 'minimal scenery' series have won awards at international competitions (e.g. International Tokyo Awards, Monochrome Awards, Chromatic Awards...) and have been published in photo magazines or books.
Viewing my images should be an act of looking through a frame with minimal elements, excluding all noise. I prefer a simple, clear pictorial language that is essentially reduced to a minimum.
I have been taking photographs since the age of 14 and in recent years I have found my vision for my personal photographic journey. "Minimal scenery" is the realisation of my way of photographing.
Almost all the photographs in this portfolio have been taken in my local area. By using a simple and clear pictorial language, I can show the unknown in the known.
Thank you for your interest in my work.
