Paola Idrontino is originally from Italy and currently based in Barcelona.
She creates accessories, costumes, marine-inspired textile sculptures, and ethereal photography.
At the age of 20, she moved to London to study art.
In 2004, she completed a first class BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Central St Martins College.
The following year, she launched Papayapie, a label that explores new ways of highlighting
and dramatising the natural silhouette of the body using accessories and garments.
Her passion for storytelling is combined with complex textile arrangements to create
otherworldly costumes inspired by grotesque and weird creatures.
With an underpinning of traditional techniques, she manipulates the properties of fibres and combines
them with unexpected and widely contrasting materials, both new and recycled.
