Eve: Re-Framed

(The idea behind these photos is to re-frame a Biblical scene in feminist notes, depicting Eve not showing any remorse for the Original Sin. The description below, however humorous, is quite valid.)

Once upon a time, there was this extraordinary woman Eve, who craftily tricked Satan into helping her escape a badly designed patriarchal establishment, known by the name of Eden. Unfortunately, Adam, a direct beneficiary of the above mentioned patriarchal structure, decided to follow her, despite no invitation being extended to him at any time. He and his descendants have been killing her vibe (and each other) ever since.

Pure Sentiments by Andrew Herman

I have come to romanticize the time when these pictures were taken. It was 2019 and I was halfway through my semester abroad. Krakow was breathtaking – both literally and figuratively. Irresistible to the eyes, heavy on the lungs. Everyday life was poetically marked by literature - Miłosz, Gombrowicz, Mrożek.

We would argue about politics and later indulge in photography.

I now realize that those pictures were my first ideological act of owning my body and determining the regime of (in)visibility it would be recognized upon. Standing there unapologetically naked represents being in possession of matter as it is in a patriarchal society that fiercely tries to dominate bodies. Conscious nudity empowers.
